The Antique Metate, also known as a quern, milling stone, or grinding stone, is a tool that has been used in the Americas since the domestication of maize around 7000 BCE. The term "metate" is derived from the Mexican Spanish word "metlatl," which originated from the Náhuatl language. Metate were used to grind corn before it was cooked.
